Mascara: The old beauty enhancer that has lasted ages till now.

Mascara has been used for centuries to enhance the appearance of eyelashes. Its origin dates back to ancient times, where it was primarily made from a combination of soot and other natural ingredients.

In ancient Egypt, mascara was used by both men and women to darken and lengthen eyelashes. They used a substance called kohl, which was made by grinding minerals like malachite and galena into a fine powder. This powder was then mixed with water or other binding agents to create a paste. The paste was then applied to the eyelashes using a small brush or comb, similar to how mascara is applied today.

Over the years, mascara has evolved and improved. Modern mascaras are typically made from a combination of waxes, pigments, and film-forming polymers. These ingredients not only give the mascara its color but also help it adhere to the lashes and provide length, volume, and curl.

To apply mascara effectively, follow these steps

1. Start with clean and dry eyelashes. Remove any excess oil or makeup residue from your lashes to ensure better adhesion.

2. Choose the right mascara wand. Different mascaras come with different wand shapes and bristle types. Select a wand that suits your desired effect (lengthening, volumizing, etc.) and personal preference.

3. Wipe off any excess mascara from the wand by lightly scraping it against the opening of the tube. This prevents clumping and excessive product application.

4. Hold the wand horizontally and start at the base of your lashes. Wiggle the wand slightly back and forth to coat the base evenly. This technique ensures that you get maximum coverage.

5. As you move the wand upward, start rotating it to an upright position, lightly sweeping through the lashes. This helps to lift and separate them while adding length and volume.

6. If desired, apply multiple coats, allowing the previous layer to dry slightly before adding more. Be careful not to apply too many coats, as it can lead to clumping.

7. For the lower lashes, hold the wand vertically and use the tip to coat the lashes gently.

8. Remember to let the mascara dry before blinking or touching your lashes to avoid smudging.

9. To remove mascara, use a gentle eye makeup remover or micellar water. Soaking a cotton pad and pressing it against your closed eyelid for a few seconds can help the mascara dissolve and make removal easier.

It's important to note that mascara has a limited shelf life and should be replaced every three to six months to prevent bacteria growth and avoid eye infections.
